Stocking Stuffers: Healing Salve

The next stocking stuffer I’ve made this year is this amazing healing salve! This salve is just the thing to apply to scrapes, cuts, burns, bites, blisters, chapped lips, and irritated skin. It does it all! Below, I’ve listed all the (extensive!) benefits of each ingredient.

1 cup olive oil

3/4 cup unrefined coconut oil (antibacterial, heals wounds)

6 T beeswax pellets

1 tsp honey (antibacterial, healing for wounds and burns)

3/4 tsp vitamin E (prevents scarring, preservative)

1/2 dropper neem oil (antibacterial, anti-fungal, antiseptic, soothing)

30 drops lavender essential oil (anti-inflammatory, pain relieving, antibacterial, antiseptic, soothes skin irritation, healing for bites, stings, and burns)

30 drops tea tree oil (antibacterial, anti-fungal, antiseptic, healing for open wounds and infections)

30 drops rosemary essential oil (cell regenerator, antiseptic, reduces swelling and pain)

20 drops peppermint essential oil (anti-inflammatory, soothes skin irritation, healing for burns, cooling)

20 drops geranium essential oil (healing for small wounds and irritated skin)

15 drops frankincense essential oil (healing for small wounds)

Dried herbs for infusing:

2 tsp calendula flower powder (anti-fungal,  anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, soothes almost any skin condition, heals wounds)

2 tsp plantain (healing for burns, sores, stings, and wounds)

2 tsp marshmallow root (soothes inflamed and chapped skin, healing for wounds and burns)

1 tsp lemon balm (antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, healing for bites, stings, and most skin conditions)

1 tsp chamomile (anti-inflammatory, healing for bites, stings, and wounds, soothes most skin conditions)

1 tsp thyme (antibacterial, anti-fungal, antiseptic, healing for bites, stings, wounds, poison oak and poison ivy)

1 tsp vervain (healing for bites, stings, wounds, and sores, soothes skin conditions)

1/2 tsp ground cinnamon (antibacterial, anti-fungal, antiseptic)

Cover your dried herbs with 1 cup olive oil in a sanitized Pyrex measuring cup. Place in a pot of water over low heat. Infuse for 6-8 hours, making sure the water doesn’t all evaporate. Strain oil with a coffee filter or cheesecloth, then return oil to clean Pyrex.

Add the coconut oil and beeswax to Pyrex double-boiler over medium-low heat, stirring until beeswax melts.

Stir in honey, vitamin E, and neem.

Remove from heat and quickly add essential oils, stirring well.

Fill your sanitized tins or jars and allow to cool. This recipe fills 12 1-oz tins.

Apply a small amount to clean cuts and wounds and cover with a band-aid.
